Sorolla and America

This catalogue includes the "Sorolla and America" exhibition, which after being held at the Meadows Museum in Dallas (December 2013), will take place at the San Diego Museum of Art (March 2014). This publication explores the relationship of the artist with the United States of the ten and twenty years through the lens of those who administered it and its collectors through artists such as John Singer Sargent and William Merrit Chase with whom Sorolla maintained close relations. Particular attention is paid to the association and relationship of the artist with the Hispanic Society of America and key figures such as Archer Milton Huntingyton and Thomas Fortune Ryan.

Blanca Pons-Sorolla, great-granddaughter of the artist and maximum authority in the study of his work, is in charge of supervising this edition and certifying that each reproduction is adjusted with the greatest rigor to painting. It is a publication of extraordinary quality, for which hundreds of illustrations of Sorolla's works have been used. An annex includes a complete illustrated relation of all the paintings that the artist made in the United States or for some American collector. Sorolla and America becomes an essential volume for all those who want to know the painting made by the artist for the North American continent.
