On November 11, 1918, the armistice that ended the First Wold War was signed and that is the reason why Patrimonio Nacional (The Spanish National Heritage) has prepared both an exhibition and a publication titled Cartas al rey. La mediación humanitaria de Alfonso XIII en la Gran Guerra (Letters to the King. The humanitarian mediation of Alfonso XIII in the Great War), which will show king Alfonso XIII's Private Secretaryship's work, through the Office of the European War and the different embassies of Spain, to manage the numerous requests for help received by him.
In this publication, renowned specialists narrate the causes, development ant the end of the war, and analyze the personality of the king and the various political circumstances that led Spain to choose the neutrality that allowed it to develop this important humanitarian work.
