Published in conjunction with the eponymous exhibition organized by National Heritage at the Royal Palace of Madrid, which will continue in March 2020 at the Monastery of the Descalzas Reales and the Royal Monastery of the Encarnación, this monograph is dedicated to these two complexes as spaces of intense courtly and political life, as well as religious life. Both patronages were founded by figures of the House of Austria near the Royal Alcázar and functioned as a female court parallel to that established by the king.
This publication analyzes its architecture and interior spaces, as well as the value of its collections of paintings, sculptures, jewelry, tapestries, and other textiles, as well as the ceremonial uses that influenced the layout of some rooms and the creation of some of these artistic objects.
