Sorolla. Vision of Spain in the Hispanic Society of America

In 1911, Archer Milton Huntington, founder of The Hispanic Society of America in New York, commissioned Sorolla to paint the so-called Vision of Spain, a large-scale wall decoration.

The complete series installed in the Hispanic Society in 1926, is one of the most impressive interior spaces in New York City. Sorolla's works brilliantly combine vibrant plenary naturalism with the strong influence of impressionism, references to ancient and Renaissance art disguised as everyday life, and even more modern and advanced elements such as extremely high horizon lines, highly expressive brushstrokes, and almost completely abstract backgrounds that imbue the compositions with visual energy.

All of Sorolla's work is reflected in this magnificent eight-meter-long foldout, in which the works are shown in the same order in which they can be seen in the library of the Hispanic Society of America in New York.
