Joaquín Torres-García: a modernist in Arcadia

The work of Joaquín Torres-García revealed unprecedented paths of transformation for modern art on both sides of the Atlantic. Born in Uruguay, Torres-García lived and worked in Spain and throughout Europe, North America, and South America, anticipating the cultural breadth of today's art world not only through his own life but also through his interest in the primitive in an age of avant-garde movements, the radical schematic impulse of his work, and the utopian dimension of his thought.

The book Joaquín Torres-García: A Modernist in Arcadia has been published in conjunction with the ambitious retrospective exhibition of the same name presented in New York, Madrid, and Málaga. With texts by Luis Pérez-Oramas, Geaninne Gutiérrez-Guimarães, Estrella de Diego, Alexander Alberro, and Sergio Chejfec, this work illustrates, through numerous carefully curated reproductions, Torres-García's paintings, drawings, sculptures, and manuscripts and offers a comprehensive overview of the master's long and wide-ranging career.
