Jaume Blassi's project was born in 1978, after his trip to Peru. Inspired by his mentor Paul Strand, he decided to photograph the Andes and leave a graphic record of its people, landscapes, gods, and myths. Since then, he has traveled to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina to capture the diverse ethnic minorities that inhabit the Andes mountain range. Blassi presents himself as an "outsider" who humbly faces the challenge of documenting these cultures and their ancient traditions. His empathy with his subjects has resulted in portraits of great psychological insight, in harmony with nature. The creation process for this series, which took him almost a quarter of a century, is based on patience, observation, and knowledge, which allows him to capture the essence of these communities. This book offers a valuable graphic vision of the physical and anthropological reality of the Andes, fusing portraits and landscapes in a poetic and detailed narrative.
