The catalogue "Rembrandt, Painter of Stories" accompanies the exhibition held at the Museo del Prado between October 2008 and January 2009, the most ambitious exhibition in Spain dedicated to the Dutch master. Curated by Alejandro Vergara, the exhibition brought together thirty-five paintings and five prints by Rembrandt, focusing on religious, mythological, and historical themes, key genres in 17th-century painting. Since the Prado only owns one work by the artist, Artemis (1634), the exhibition provided a first-ever view in Madrid of key pieces from his narrative output. The catalogue includes detailed information on the forty works on display and two main essays: one by Vergara and another by Mariët Westermann (New York University), which analyze the painter's narrative style and sources of inspiration. Also included is a chronology and a text by Teresa Posada Kubissa.
