The art collection built in the early 1980s by Spaniards Juan Abelló and Anna Gamazo is among the most important in the world. Great lovers of history and art, they have built a collection of striking personality, whose common thread is the beauty and quality of the pieces within.
This is a transversal collection, which brings together works created over five hundred years, between the 15th and 21st centuries, by both Spanish and international artists, particularly those who have less presence in public and private collections in Spain, and through which the Abelló couple has carried out a notable task of recovering their country's artistic heritage.
The major exhibition, “The Abelló Collection: A Modern Taste for European Masters,” presented by the Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University, showcases for the first time in the United States a carefully curated selection of more than 100 works from the Abelló Collection: excellent paintings and some sculptures; but also, very significantly, drawings, whose artistic value is crucial for understanding the creative process.
