Archer M. Huntington (1870-1955), son of one of the wealthiest men in America, decided that his passion for Spain would be expressed in the creation of a museum and library that would make Hispanic art and culture available to his fellow countrymen, and in 1904 he founded The Hispanic Society of America in New York.
A selection of more than two hundred of the treasures he collected is being presented at major museums, including the Prado Museum (Madrid), the Palace of Fine Arts (Mexico City), and museums in Albuquerque, Cincinnati, and Houston in the United States. This volume compiles the contents of this major exhibition, including a detailed description of each piece and an introductory essay that recounts the history of the formation of the Hispanic Society and the scope of its collections.
